Introduction

Welcome to SIMBA Trainers! Our goal is to provide a respectful, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for learning and competing in chess. This Code of Conduct outlines the expected behavior for all members of our community, including students, parents, guardians, staff, volunteers, and visitors. Adherence to this Code helps ensure a positive and safe experience for everyone involved in our activities, including lessons, training sessions, and events.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to:

  • Students: Individuals participating in lessons, classes, or training sessions.
  • Parents and Guardians: Those responsible for students and present during lessons or events.
  • Staff and Volunteers: Including teachers, coaches, arbiters, and administrative personnel.
  • Visitors and Spectators: Family members, friends, and others attending academy events.

General Expectations for All Participants

  1. Respect and Inclusivity:
    • Treat all individuals with respect, kindness, and courtesy, regardless of their role or background.
    • Avoid discriminatory language or behavior based on race, gender, age, religion, nationality, or any other characteristic.
    • Embrace diversity and foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
  2. Integrity and Fair Play:
    • Adhere to the rules of chess and respect decisions made by coaches and arbiters.
    • Play honestly, without cheating, using unauthorized assistance, or engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct.
    • Accept wins and losses gracefully, demonstrating good sportsmanship at all times.
  3. Safety and Well-being:
    • Prioritize the safety and well-being of yourself and others. Bullying, harassment, sexual abuse, or any form of intimidation is strictly prohibited.
    • Any form of sexual harassment, inappropriate touching, comments of a sexual nature, or any behavior that could be considered sexual abuse will not be tolerated.
    • Report any behavior that compromises the safety, respect, or integrity of the academy.
  4. Focus and Conduct:
    • Maintain focus during lessons and games, avoiding unnecessary disruptions.
    • Respect the learning and playing environment by keeping noise levels to a minimum and following instructions from staff promptly.
  5. Respect for the Venue:
    • Treat all academy venues and equipment with care. Keep areas clean and tidy, and adhere to any specific venue rules or guidelines.

Specific Guidelines

  1. For Students:
    • Arrive on time, prepared to participate fully in lessons and activities.
    • Follow instructions from coaches and staff and engage respectfully with peers.
    • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and collaboration.
  2. For Parents and Guardians:
    • Support your child’s participation by encouraging positive behavior and adherence to academy rules.
    • Communicate with staff respectfully, addressing concerns through appropriate channels.
    • Refrain from disruptive behavior during lessons or events, and respect the roles of staff and arbiters.
  3. For Staff and Volunteers:
    • Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, serving as role models for students.
    • Maintain clear boundaries with students and parents, focusing on creating a safe and supportive educational environment.
    • Comply with all required background checks and participate in ongoing training on child protection and safe conduct.
  4. For Visitors and Spectators:
    • Maintain a respectful and quiet demeanor during lessons and events to avoid disrupting participants.
    • Support all players positively, regardless of the outcomes, and refrain from coaching or offering advice during games.
    • Follow the instructions of academy staff and arbiters to ensure a smooth and respectful experience for all.

Consequences of Breaching the Code

Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in consequences such as:

  • Verbal or written warnings.
  • Temporary suspension from lessons, events, or activities.
  • Permanent removal from the academy for serious or repeated breaches.

Reporting Concerns

  • How to Report: If you witness or experience a breach of these Community Standards, including sexual abuse or harassment, please report it to the academy’s designated Safety Officer or use our reporting form.
  • Confidentiality: All reports are handled confidentially, with appropriate actions taken to address the situation while respecting the privacy of all involved parties.
  • Non-Retaliation: The academy strictly prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports a concern or participates in an investigation.
